At the present time we are looking for a creative, hands on Music Therapist to facilitate and assist in coordinating recreational programs for our Assisted Living and Alzheimer's/Dementia Memory Care Residents.
Full Time Schedule includes 30hrs, covering the day shift 9am-5pm three days a week and one evening shift a week from 12noon-8pm.
- Assist Residents in their adjustments to a new concept of lifestyle as well as in the continuation of interests, hobbies and activities they may have previously pursued
- Assist planning trips to various suitable destinations, i.e.., art galleries, theater, music, racetracks, sports events, religious and cultural programs
- Help prepare, print and distribute copies of monthly calendar, newsletters and memos to Residents
- Assists in developing new and stimulating activities and encourage and coordinate Resident involvement
- Perform planned activities in the absence of the Recreation Director
- Maintain knowledge of Residents’ backgrounds, hobbies, special interests, and languages spoken, etc., and uses this knowledge to encourage Resident involvement
Experience:
- One year prior experience working with the geriatric population or patients with Alzheimer’s or Dementia
- At least 6 months of Music Therapy experience preferably in an Assisted Living, Long Term Care or similar industry setting
- Experience in facilitating music therapy groups, therapeutic drumming, song writing, composition, choir, music lessons and music education programs.
Qualifications:
- Music Therapy degree from an accredited program and MT-BC license in current standing
- Proficient in guitar, piano and ukulele preferred
- Outgoing, warm and caring personality
- Ability to create a program to get Residents involved and excited
- Dependable and able to supervise activities, special events and excursions for the Residents
- Creative talents in one or more areas such as art, music, readings, dance, etc
- Well groomed and properly attired, professional attitude
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Proven ability to lead classes/instructional learning sessions and speak in front of a group setting with ease and clarity
